A fantastic journey to the Island of the Schlasocks

When Jasper flies over the sea with a drone in the middle of the night, an extraordinary family experience full of fantasy, wit, and mysterious creatures begins for children from eight years old. At the reading as part of the 33rd Freiburg Children's Literature Festival, author Nils Mohl takes his audience to an island where Schlasocks, Schnarnas, and Trütass live.

Word acrobatics, monsters, and plenty of curiosity

Jasper feels abandoned at home and lands on a mysterious island. There, he encounters monstrous inhabitants who hardly know what a child actually does. Together with the young listeners, he gets to the bottom of the mystery of this unusual place.

A child-friendly learning experience with a lot of fun

The reading combines children's literature, humor, and shared listening. Imaginative neologisms stimulate linguistic development, while Jasper's journey touches on themes such as friendship, courage, hope, and solidarity. The story shows age-appropriately how collective action can change a difficult situation.

Nils Mohl as an award-winning guest reader

Nils Mohl lives as a freelance writer in Hamburg and has published several volumes of poetry as well as novels. For his literary work, he was awarded the German Children's Literature Prize and in 2024 the James Krüss Prize for International Children's and Youth Literature. With The Island of the Schlasocks, he presents his first children's book.

Quality time at the Theater Freiburg

The event takes place in the Great House of the Theater Freiburg and lasts from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Admission is free, and registration is not required. Families will experience a whimsical reading hour in a safe event setting and discover the joy of books, language, and stories together.

Conclusion: An island adventure for young book fans

Absurdly funny creatures, surprising ideas, and a story about courage and friendship make this reading a special family experience. Those who love children's literature and want to dive into a fantastical world with children will experience laughter, wonder, and a new desire for reading at the Freiburg Children's Literature Festival.
