Westbad Freiburg | Opening Hours & Prices
The Westbad Freiburg is Freiburg's largest indoor pool and the only combined pool in the city. It is located in Mooswald at Ensisheimer Straße 9 and serves as a facility for sports, leisure, and family moments alike. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportstaetten/detail/hallenbad-west.html))
For the search intent around westbad freiburg, westbad opening hours, westbad prices, westbad directions, and westbad sauna, it is important that the official pages bundle current visitor information, course offerings, and the Westbad overview. At the same time, one should keep in mind that pools may deviate from these hours on holidays or during special opening times, so a quick check before heading out is advisable. ([visit.freiburg.de](https://visit.freiburg.de/westbad-freiburg?utm_source=openai))
Regarding westbad prices, the official pricing structure is also transparent. The day ticket for adults costs 6.00 euros, reduced 4.50 euros. The evening rate applies from 6:00 PM and is 3.50 euros regular or 2.50 euros reduced. For planning, it is also important that day tickets are valid on the day of purchase and only entitle to a one-time entry. Therefore, Westbad recommends a targeted visit rather than a spontaneous back-and-forth between different times. Those who want to swim as quietly as possible can orient themselves by the combination of weekday and time: mornings and forenoons are often particularly attractive, while the evening rate is a cost-effective entry for a later visit. Tickets can be booked through the official shop, which additionally simplifies arrival and entry. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
Directions to Westbad Freiburg: Mooswald, Line 10 and Route Planning
The location of Westbad is a clear advantage for many visitors. It is located at Ensisheimer Straße 9 in the Mooswald district, thus in the western Freiburg city area and within reach of important leisure and green spaces. The visitor page of Freiburg describes Westbad as easily accessible by public transport, which is particularly attractive for people who wish to travel without a car. This is practical for a leisure location because the visit starts relaxed and does not begin with searching for parking. The site is therefore intentionally not isolated but integrated into the urban environment. ([visit.freiburg.de](https://visit.freiburg.de/westbad-freiburg?utm_source=openai))
Specifically, the official directions for public transport: Line 10 stops at the Falkenbergstraße station; from there it is about a 5-minute walk to the pool. This is a simple and understandable route for families, club groups, and leisure guests. The Westbad page also includes a route function that leads to route planning via Google Maps. Those coming from other districts can check the route in advance and better coordinate their visit with the opening hours. This combination of Line 10 and a short remaining distance makes Westbad a practical address. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
Regarding parking: The official Westbad pages primarily emphasize arriving by public transport and digital route planning. Specific parking spaces or a dedicated parking lot are not highlighted there. Therefore, it is advisable to check the current route view and the general traffic situation before driving. This cautious planning is particularly useful on warm days or weekends when the outdoor pool, indoor pool, and outdoor areas are in higher demand. For most visitors, the mix of public transport and a short walking distance remains the simplest solution. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
50-Meter Pool, Diving Tower, and the New Outdoor Area
The centerpiece of Westbad is the 50-meter swimming pool in the indoor area, which plays a special role in the region. The Sportportal Freiburg emphasizes that Westbad, as the only combined pool in the city, seamlessly unites indoor and outdoor pools, and that the 50-meter pool along with the 10-meter diving tower are among the most important features. Additionally, diving towers are available in several heights: 1 meter, 3 meters, 5 meters, 7.5 meters, and 10 meters. For swimmers, divers, and sport-oriented visitors, this is a clear quality factor because training, technique, and experience come together in one place. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportstaetten/detail/hallenbad-west.html))
Since August 2025, Westbad has a new outdoor area that significantly increases the attractiveness of the facility. The official description speaks of a modern, spacious outdoor area for all age groups, designed for sports, play, and relaxation on warm days. New elements include a large outdoor pool, barrier-free summer access, a children's pool with a sun sail, a water playground from the Volker-Homann Foundation, and the Sparkassen-Splash. The badenovaStrom experience area, which addresses energy and environmental themes, is also included. This means that Westbad is no longer just a sports address but also a summer location with its own character of experience. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
The outdoor area is also strongly designed for quality of stay. According to the official listing, there is a 12,600 square meter sunbathing area with deck chairs, a playground, beach volleyball, soccer, a calisthenics facility, and a 3x3 basketball court. The press release from the city of Freiburg adds that Westbad was designed technically, sustainably, and socially, including photovoltaic systems, new trees, and generous lawns. For guests, this means: Westbad is not just a place to swim, but a space where one can spend a whole day with movement, breaks, and sunshine. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
Accessibility, Sunbathing Area, and Family Offers
A central advantage of Westbad is its accessibility. The Sportportal Freiburg explicitly lists the pool as barrier-free, and the official Westbad page mentions accessible changing rooms and showers. Additionally, the barrier-free summer access in the new outdoor area makes the visit to the outdoor area more comfortable and inclusive. For people with mobility impairments, this is an important signal because it considers not only the water area but also the way there. Especially in a frequently used combined pool, such infrastructure is essential to ensure that a stay on-site remains truly relaxed. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportstaetten/detail/hallenbad-west.html))
Families also benefit from the facilities. The large sunbathing area directly at Flückiger See invites relaxation, while children can be active in the playground, water play area, or outdoor pool. The official description also mentions a children's area with a sun sail and a range of elements designed for play and movement. These include the Sparkassen-Splash and the water playground from the Volker-Homann Foundation. The leisure character has thus become significantly stronger without losing the sporting core. This mix makes Westbad interesting for different age groups. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
The facilities also include a bistro, beach volleyball, a table tennis room, outdoor table tennis, chess, mills, a calisthenics facility, and a 3x3 basketball court. This variety is unusually extensive for a combined outdoor and indoor pool and sets Westbad apart from a pure swimming facility. For visitors, this means more variety between water phases. However, an important current note remains: The children's splash pool is currently closed according to the official page. Those coming with small children should take this into account when planning their day and possibly resort to other offerings such as the sunbathing area, water playground, or the other pools. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
Aqua-Sport, Club Training, and Special Events
Westbad is not only a leisure location but also a real sports facility. The Sportportal Freiburg lists sports such as aqua fitness, fin swimming, swimming, diving, diving, and water polo. This covers a wide range from classic lap swimming to technically demanding disciplines. Particularly for performance-oriented swimmers, the combination of the 50-meter pool and diving facility is attractive. The fact that the pool is described in the official city portal as the largest and sportiest pool in Freiburg fits very well with this usage. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportstaetten/detail/hallenbad-west.html))
A special point is the club and training affiliation. The Sportportal Freiburg points out that Freiburg's largest swimming club, with its departments for swimming, water polo, diving, diving, and triathlon, has its sporting home in Westbad. This is relevant for the city because the pool is not only a magnet for recreational swimmers but also a center for organized water sports. Such structures strengthen the location in the long term and explain why Westbad repeatedly appears in sports policy and urban planning contexts in Freiburg. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportanbietende/angebote/schwimmsportverein-freiburg-ev.html?utm_source=openai))
Leisure events also play a role. The official description mentions regular events such as diving shows, which make the visit a sporting highlight even for spectators. This is precisely what makes Westbad attractive: one can actively train, swim with children, relax on the sunbathing area, or experience a spectacle at the diving tower as a guest. For visitors who do not see westbad freiburg merely as a swimming pool but as a place of experience, these events provide real added value. Those who catch the right time window will experience the pool as much more lively than during a normal indoor pool visit. ([sportportal.freiburg.de](https://sportportal.freiburg.de/sportstaetten/detail/hallenbad-west.html))
Sauna Question and Practical Visiting Tips
Many people search for westbad sauna when looking for a combination of swimming and relaxation. However, no sauna offering is mentioned on the official Westbad pages. The documented facilities focus on swimming pools, diving towers, sunbathing areas, bistro, and sports fields. This leads to a cautious but sensible interpretation: Westbad is primarily a bathing and sports location and not the classic address for a sauna day. Therefore, those specifically looking for a sauna should compare the regional pool overview separately before automatically concluding that Westbad has a sauna offering. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
In practice, Westbad is still well-planned. Tickets can be purchased online on the official site, the opening hours are clearly presented, and the most important features of the pool are clearly named. Those who want to swim early should best use Tuesday morning; those who are budget-conscious can consider the evening rate from 6:00 PM; and those coming with children should check the current status of the children's splash pool in advance. The combination of transparent information and versatile facilities makes the visit uncomplicated. That’s why Westbad frequently appears in search queries regarding prices, opening hours, directions, and outdoor pools. ([badeninfreiburg.de](https://badeninfreiburg.de/baderubersicht/westbad/))
In the end, Westbad Freiburg presents itself as a place with two faces: on one hand, powerful, sporty, and designed for lanes, jumps, and training; on the other hand, open for summer, families, and quality of stay in green spaces. The new outdoor facility since August 2025 has made this profile even more visible without losing the character of the indoor pool. Anyone wanting to understand Freiburg's water world should therefore not only consider Westbad as a search term but as a real address in the Mooswald district. For day guests, clubs, and regular swimmers, it is one of the most important leisure and sports facilities in the city.
Seems nice, but unfortunately the 7.5m and 10m diving platforms are not open/accessibile to the public. They're for clubs only. Which is kind of disappointing, since there aren't many pools with 10m platforms nowadays.

The maps show that the pool is open until 6:00 pm, you go at 5:10 pm and they don't allow you to make a payment because of their system. Even when I said I was coming from far away to do 30 minutes of exercise in the water, they didn't let me. It should be stated separately that a person can't make a payment after 5 pm😠

Most pools in Freiburg have 25-meter pools, but here you have a 50-meter pool that can sometimes be split into smaller sections. There's also a separate shallow pool and a diving pool that's 5 meters deep. The water quality is much better than in other pools in Freiburg. The staff is good, and the lockers are also adequate.

Beautiful modern indoor Olympic pool with huge windows that let in natural light. Best place in Freiburg for swim training. My only complaint is that their opening hours are a bit limited. They're only open early two mornings per week and close early on weekends.

Changing areas are not cleaned often enough. Staff could be more friendly. Female staff think it's acceptable to walk through the men's shower area - but they should have more respect and not do this. I'm sure there would be protests if male staff walked through the women's changing area! The showers are not great and there is often a problem with temperature control and functionality. On the plus side, the pool water is held at just the right temperature and is clean.
