A wonderful place surprisingly open 24 hours a day, sadly the food options and beer gardens close at 6:30 p.m. in August.

If you are visiting Freiburg, don’t waste your time here. There is nothing special about these farm animals, go to the mountains and enjoy Schwarzwälder instead.

A very beautiful zoo. An excellent place for kids. There are many playgrounds for children of all ages and numerous animals. You can bring food from home and have a meal in the designated picnic areas or dine at one of the restaurants or terraces here. I recommend visiting during the week when it's not crowded. Entrance is free, only parking costs 5 euros.

Mundenhof is Freiburg's smallest district: With only 50 residents, there are clearly more animals than people here and the largest animal enclosure in Baden-Württemberg with free admission. The house donkey Moritz was the first resident in 1968 – today, hundreds of domestic and farm animal breeds from all over the world live on the huge, year-round accessible grounds. My path always leads me first to the dwarf goats. From March to October, you can accompany the animal keepers directly during feedings. The farm restaurant impresses with regional organic cuisine, which also offers vegan options. Whether at these feedings or events like the pumpkin festival, the nativity play, and many others – for me, there is hardly a nicer place for relaxed Sundays with the animals.

Mundenhof is a public animal enclosure with no admission fee. However, parking costs 5€ during the week and 10€ on weekends. In recent years, a lot has been renovated, making the animal park an experience for the whole family.
