Program, Tickets, and Current Showtimes at Harmonie Arthaus Kino
The program at Harmonie is deliberately diverse and thrives on variety rather than rigid repetition. The website displays a continuously updated program overview with films, times, and ticket links, supplemented by a weekend overview and individual specials. For search queries like Harmonie Kino program or Harmonie Kino tickets, it is particularly important that the cinema not only shows regular screenings but also incorporates special series and event formats. Harmonie sees itself as a crossover house that does not oppose arthouse and mainstream but combines them meaningfully. This includes major audience films, cult titles, family cinema, German productions, original versions with subtitles, and special events with a live character. The official site also makes it clear that Harmonie regularly brings formats like MET-Live from New York, Berliner Philharmoniker, The English One, surf film nights, and school cinema weeks into the house. This mix ensures that Harmonie is not only attractive for spontaneous cinema visits but also for visitors who consciously seek a special evening and want to inform themselves about the program in advance. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/))
When purchasing tickets, Harmonie relies on clear rules and uncomplicated online use. According to the price and service page, the box office at Harmonie opens 30 minutes before the start of the first screening, and reservations by phone or email are not provided. This is important for many visitors because it makes the process clear and direct: plan online, arrive on site in time, buy a ticket, and start the evening relaxed. The pricing structure is transparent and distinguishes between Harmonie and Kandelhof prices, cinema Tuesday, and discounted rates for young visitors. For Harmonie and Kandelhof, a current standard price of 11.50 euros applies from Wednesday to Monday, tickets on Tuesdays cost 8.00 euros, and all under 25 years pay 7.50 euros. Additionally, there is a Cinecard discount of 12 percent for cardholders and their companions, which also applies to popcorn and drinks. This is an attractive system, especially for visitors who regularly go to the cinema or specifically look for tickets, prices, and savings options. There are also surcharges for box seats, extended films, 3D, and special programs, as well as special prices for live and event performances. This combination of clear pricing logic and special programming makes Harmonie the first address for many Freiburg residents when it comes to cinema with predictability and character. Directions, Parking, and Location at Martinstor
The location of Harmonie is one of its greatest advantages, as it is situated right in the urban core of Freiburg yet in a way that is easily understandable and practical for visitors. The official directions mention Grünwälderstraße between Kaiser-Joseph-Straße and Augustinerplatz, about 50 meters from Martinstor. Additionally, the Bertholdsbrunnen stop with bus and train connections in all directions is only about a minute's walk away. For anyone searching for Harmonie Kino directions, this is the most important practical note: The cinema is accessible without detours via public transport and is centrally located enough to be easily combined with a city stroll, restaurant visit, or a detour into the old town. The location is not just an address but part of the experience. Those arriving on foot experience the city center directly, those arriving by bus or train disembark very close, and those who want to start the evening with a walk have a lively environment around Martinstor. This city center location fits perfectly with an arthouse cinema that does not function as an isolated purpose-built structure but as part of a culturally dense urban space. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/service/anfahrt/))
When it comes to parking, Harmonie also provides clear guidance. According to the directions, two parking garages are located on Rempartstraße about five minutes on foot, and the Schloßberg parking garage is about six minutes away. For visitors arriving by car and searching for Harmonie Kino parking or Freiburg city center parking, this is useful information. The Freiburg city center itself has a parking guidance system with 16 parking garages in the old town, university, and train station zones, and dynamic boards at several points show available spaces. At the same time, the city points out that the historic core is largely car-free, and the outskirts with P+R options also serve as an alternative. This is why Harmonie is well integrated for both drivers and public transport users: Those who want to go directly to the old town can use the short routes of the city center, those who want to solve parking stress-free have several parking garages within reach, and those who want to remain flexible can combine ticket purchase and arrival with a look at the city's parking guidance system. This mix of central location and realistic parking options makes the site very practical for many visitors. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/service/anfahrt/))
Halls, Seating Plan, and Accessibility
With six modern halls, Harmonie is remarkably large for a city center cinema and is also very diversely usable. The official site mentions Hall 1 with 239 seats in the basement, Hall 2 with 184 seats and partial balcony, Hall 3 with 252 seats on the upper floor, Hall 4 with 126 seats, Hall 5 with 95 seats, and the podium with 102 seats on the ground floor. From this information, a total capacity of 998 seats arises. For search queries like Harmonie Kino seating plan or Harmonie Arthaus Kino seats, this is the crucial information: The house is large enough for a versatile program but structured in its rooms so that different film types and audience situations can be appropriately served. The combination of several hall sizes allows for smaller, intimate screenings as well as larger audience evenings. The glass-covered foyer additionally contributes to the perception of the house, as it enhances the impression of an open, modern, and urban cinema building. Those who want to inform themselves about the seating in advance will not find a generic cinema but a house with clearly differentiated spaces and a real profile in the city center. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/unsere-kinos/harmonie/))
Accessibility is particularly important, as Harmonie provides concrete and helpful information here. According to the service page, all halls of Harmonie are accessible at ground level or by elevator for wheelchair users. The wheelchair spaces are marked in online ticketing with a wheelchair symbol and a different color in the seating plan. Additionally, Harmonie has a wheelchair-accessible toilet. This is a significant plus for visitors with mobility impairments and makes Harmonie a reliable address within the Freiburg city center. The cinema also provides information on access for visually and hearing-impaired guests: Non-German films are shown at least once in the original version with German subtitles, and for selected films, the apps GRETA and STARKS can be used to receive subtitles or audio descriptions on smartphones. There is also a service for companions of wheelchair users, who can receive a free ticket upon presentation of the disability ID with the B mark. So, those searching for Harmonie Kino accessibility, seating plan, or wheelchair space not only receive a mere statement but a well-documented service logic that makes the cinema visit more predictable and pleasant. History and Profile: From Harmonie Lichtspiele to Today's Arthouse House
The history of Harmonie goes back a long way and gives the house a significant cultural depth. The house's website reports that the original Harmonie Lichtspiele opened in 1927 as an Art Deco film theater in the building of the liberal reading society Harmonie, founded in 1834. Under the direction of UFA, the old building was later demolished, and in 1992 a new building with six modern cinema halls and a glass-covered foyer was created at the same location. Since its takeover by Michael Wiedemann in 2008, Harmonie has been operated as an arthouse cinema. This development is more than just a construction story: it shows how a location can reinvent itself over decades without losing its identity. Therefore, those searching for Harmonie Arthaus Kino will find not only a functional screening venue but a cinema with historical roots and contemporary use. The name Harmonie is not just a label but a reference to the cultural tradition of the house and its embedding in the history of Freiburg's city center. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/unsere-kinos/harmonie/))
The current profile of Harmonie is deliberately designed as a crossover. The house description speaks of great films between arthouse and mainstream, Hollywood with flair, Oscar ambitions, cult films like Bond and Avatar, family films, German blockbuster cinema, and 3D presentations. This mix explains why the cinema is relevant for such diverse search queries: It is not just about art films in the narrow sense but about a broad, well-curated program that combines demanding and popular elements. Additionally, there are live broadcasts from the Met Opera in New York and the Berliner Philharmoniker, the English language sneak preview, The English One, surf film nights, and formats for children and schools. Meanwhile, Freiburg's independent cinemas emphasize that they show over 500 films annually and have been awarded multiple times for their program. This combination of program richness, institutional recognition, and clear specialization makes Harmonie a cinema that has a name far beyond the city. For visitors, this is particularly attractive because they can not only watch a film here but rely on a house that thinks curatorially and remains culturally present. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/unsere-kinos/harmonie/))
Family Day, Premieres, and Special Series at Harmonie
A key success factor for Harmonie is the complexity of its special formats. For families, the cinema offers a Family Day on Sundays and public holidays for designated children's films when screenings start before 6 PM. Then, companions of children under 12 years also pay only the children's price. This is particularly relevant for search queries like Harmonie Kino children, family film, or children's cinema because it is not just about a nice additional offer but about a concrete and transparent pricing rule. Harmonie is thus a place where families can go to the cinema without complicated hurdles. In combination with the designated family films, the regular offerings of children's and family formats, and the close connection to other Freiburg cinemas, a coherent overall picture emerges. Visitors who are not just looking for any screening but a planned family outing in the city will find an environment that is practical, central, and programmatically sensible. ([harmonie-kino.de](https://harmonie-kino.de/programm-tickets/filme-fuer-kinder-und-familien/))
For cinephile visitors and culture enthusiasts, especially the premieres, guest events, and thematic series are of interest. The official site explicitly mentions premieres with directors or actors, as well as film discussions after screenings. Additionally, there are specials like MET Live, Berliner Philharmoniker, The English One sneak preview, Queer Film Night, Cinéfête, French Film Week, Cinema! Italia!, Schwule Filmwoche Freiburg, Black Forest Film Festival, School Cinema Week Baden-Württemberg, short films as pre-films, and the Freiburg Puppet Theater. This variety explains why the house plays a role not only in everyday life but also for special evenings, school groups, and festival audiences. Those searching for Harmonie Arthaus Kino photos or Harmonie Arthaus Kino reviews usually have this mix in mind: the special ambiance, the central location, the programmatic diversity, and the atmosphere of a house that engages with both the audience and culture. Even if search queries may seem different at first glance, they lead to a clear target image here: Harmonie is a city center cinema with character that appeals to a wide audience while remaining a reliable place for demanding and special cinema.
There should be more Original Language Version. Pros: - location - restaurants near it Cons: - an old theater. - OV or non OV is not specify on the website - no movies on OV (with subtitles). - expensive for the quality of the furniture and the screen offered. - no snack varieties. Only sweet popcorn, for example. - service staff are not friendly.

Edit: I've updated my review to 5 stars, the online services have improved since I wrote it. I'm really happy with the movie theater, I've not encountered any technical difficulties during screenings, the audio is always good and the employees friendly. Prices are decent, the popcorn is yummy and the place is very tidy. The only bad mark is that the online reservation system is atrocious, it only works sometimes, mostly you have to call them or stop by in person.

I saw mice running around in the dark when the movie was ongoing. Would not recommend to go there.

Cool movie theatre (multiple screens) and a nice atmosphere. Usually showing more indie pics than your cinemaxx', but also bigger movies that might not appeal to the broader German audience, such as AbFab The Movie. Also this is your best shot at undubbed movies.

A great small to medium sized movie theater. Great variety of different films. Good prices. Regularly show original versions. All in all a lovely movie theater.
