This used to be the site of the Old Messplatz, where the trade fair was held in spring and fall. We children loved coming here. The Messplatz was apparently becoming too small and too noisy for the residents during the trade fair. Furthermore, there was no shopping center or underground parking garage here. So the Messplatz was relocated to the northwest of Freiburg, near the university's Faculty of Engineering. The ZO, the Oberwiehre Center, was built on the former old Messplatz, with numerous shopping opportunities and an underground parking garage, conveniently connected by a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights.
