Adventure Playground Freiburg | Opening Hours & Holiday Program

The Adventure Playground Freiburg is much more than a classic playground. It is a municipal facility for open children's and youth work, a nature and experience space, and at the same time a place where children, teenagers, schools, and families find various access points to play, learning, and community. On nearly 11,000 square meters in Freiburg-Weingarten, at the edge of Dietenbach Park, meadows, streams, hills, animals, workshops, and educational offerings combine to create a profile that is unique in the city. In the afternoons, children and teenagers aged 6 to 14 can visit the site independently and without registration, while educational offerings for schools and kindergartens take place in the mornings. This mix of openness, practical experience, and connection to nature makes the location so special. Those searching for adventure playground Freiburg Weingarten, adventure playground Freiburg opening hours, or adventure playground Freiburg holiday care will find an offer that meaningfully combines freedom and structure. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

Opening Hours, Family Day, and Open Program

The open program is the heart of daily life at the Adventure Playground Freiburg. According to the city website, it takes place on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 2 PM to 5 PM. On two Saturdays a month, the site is additionally open from 11 AM to 4 PM. It is particularly important for families that Wednesdays are Family Days, and the site is then open to everyone. Children under six years old are allowed to come on this day, but only when accompanied by an adult guardian. On the other open days, the offerings are aimed at children and teenagers between 6 and 14 years old. During the summer, the afternoon operation is extended until 6 PM, while in winter it ends at 5 PM. These times are not only practical for recurring visits but also for parents looking for reliable orientation. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

It is particularly attractive that the site can be used free of charge and without registration during opening hours. Children are allowed to enter and leave the premises independently, which clearly demonstrates the open character of the offer. The educational team is approachable and supports the children in the open play area with care, even though the formal supervision obligation in open operations is regulated differently than in closed care. The program content changes regularly and ranges from crafting and building to animal contact and joint outdoor activities. Therefore, those searching for adventure playground Freiburg opening hours usually want to know not only the times but also understand how the site functions in everyday life: open, free, uncomplicated, and yet pedagogically accompanied. This combination shapes the reputation of the place and explains why search queries around programs, family time, and open offers are so closely related. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

Site, Animals, and Workshops at the Adventure Playground

The site itself is a central argument for the Adventure Playground Freiburg. The city describes an area with hills, trees, bushes, streams, and meadows that extends over almost 11,000 square meters. Additionally, there are various usage areas that go far beyond what one would expect from a typical playground: a play area with meadow, stream, and soccer field, a hut and construction area with a fire pit, open stables with horses, goats, and chickens, workshops for metal, wood, and creative activities, a forge, a bakery with a wood oven, a group house with a large group room, and other buildings for educational and practical work. Those searching for adventure playground Freiburg photos will find this diversity visually conveyed on the city’s pages, as the official pages show numerous images of gates, hut building, animals, raised beds, and craft offerings. The site is therefore not just a backdrop but the actual content of the place. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

The animals are also an important part of the profile. Horses, goats, silk chickens, and Sundheimers live on the site, and contact with them is not intended as a show element but as part of an educational overall concept. Children experience how animals are cared for, fed, and treated with respect, and connect this with practical, social, and nature-related experiences. This is precisely why the Adventure Playground Freiburg fits so well into the search worlds around children's adventure playground Freiburg and adventure playground Freiburg and surroundings: The place is a mix of nature experience, self-efficacy, and practical learning. Since its opening in 1975, the site has seen itself as an educational space where sustainability, environmental protection, and resource conservation are not just buzzwords but part of everyday life. This continuity makes it a fixed point in Freiburg's children's and youth landscape. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/1086030.html))

Holiday Program, Holiday Care, and Leisure Activities

A particularly strong theme in search queries is holiday care. The Adventure Playground Freiburg offers its own holiday program for 2025/2026, which clearly differs from the open afternoons. During the holidays, the focus is on being outdoors, exploring nature, free and guided play, contact with horses, chickens, and goats, as well as creative offerings such as whittling, felting, building with wood, and cooking together. The Easter and Pentecost holidays are organized as day leisure activities for registered children aged 6 to 13 and run daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. This format is suitable for families looking for reliable and experience-oriented care during the holidays. The content is deliberately broad: movement, creativity, animal contact, and nature experience interlink and create a holiday structure that feels significantly more personal than mere supervision. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLfr/1368682.html))

Particularly notable is the summer camp. It lasts a week, works with its own story and camp song, and takes place with overnight stays in tents on the site. For children, this means a real holiday adventure with community, rituals, and a clear thematic framework. Additionally, there is an open holiday program in the last week of the summer holidays, which takes place in the afternoons between 2 PM and 6 PM and can be visited without registration. Therefore, those searching for adventure playground Freiburg holiday care or even for autumn festival adventure playground Freiburg October 11 will find themselves in an environment where the annual program regularly bundles special dates, holiday formats, and open festival days. The city planning uses its own registration dates for each leisure activity to keep the booking clear. This is important for parents because they can see early on when day leisure activities, summer camps, or open holiday offers start. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLfr/1368682.html))

Children's Birthday, Open Groups, and Educational Offers

The search queries around adventure playground Freiburg children's birthday and adventure playground Freiburg birthday show that many families also have the place in mind for personal celebrations. However, the publicly accessible city pages primarily focus on the open program, holiday leisure activities, school offerings, and group formats. A standardized children's birthday package is not explicitly mentioned there; therefore, it is advisable to clarify individual inquiries directly with the team rather than assuming a fixed package. This is not a limitation of the place but rather a hint at its educational orientation: The Adventure Playground does not operate like an event location but as an open learning and experience space. For this reason, it can be interesting for private groups when a birthday with a connection to nature, animals, and practical activities is planned. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

There is a wide range of group offerings anyway. In the afternoons, open group offerings take place, including hut building, blacksmithing, open horse and goat meetings, as well as other creative and craft formats. These offerings usually run without registration and complement free play. In the mornings, the site is aimed at educational institutions. For primary and secondary schools, primarily from grades 1 to 8, the Adventure Playground offers educational programs in cooperation with the Adventure School Freiburg e.V. The topics range from resources, nutrition, and health to energy and climate, as well as nature experience and cultural diversity. Kindergarten groups can come on Mondays from 9 AM to 12 PM, use the site free of charge, and offer their own activities while supervision remains with the caregivers. This way, the place covers several search intentions, from adventure playground Freiburg reviews to children's adventure playground Freiburg, as it offers various usage options for different groups and age levels. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/1085980.html))

Location in Weingarten, Dietenbach Park, and Surroundings

The location of the Adventure Playground Freiburg is crucial for orientation. The site is located in Freiburg-Weingarten at Dietenbach Park, near the districts of Rieselfeld, Haslach, and Betzenhausen. The address is Bugginger Str. 81b, 79114 Freiburg im Breisgau. This location also explains why many people search for adventure playground Freiburg im Breisgau, adventure playground Freiburg Haslach, adventure playground Freiburg Vauban, or adventure playground Freiburg Stühlinger: The place is a point of contact for several western districts and thus interesting for a large catchment area. The tourist Freiburg website also offers a route function, confirming the location as a publicly accessible excursion destination. When traveling with children, people usually think not only of play offers but also of accessibility and surroundings. The Adventure Playground is therefore particularly suitable for families looking for a nature-oriented yet well-connected urban location in western Freiburg. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

For image searches and visual interest, the location is also relevant. The official pages show not only the site itself but also its embedding in the Freiburg context. This way, seekers already get a realistic impression of gates, terrain, animals, construction and workshop areas, as well as typical activities before their visit. This is particularly helpful for keywords like adventure playground Freiburg photos because the images do not appear as random material but concretely illustrate the character of the site. Therefore, those who want to check in advance whether the Adventure Playground is more of a quiet nature place, a craft learning space, or a lively meeting point will find many hints on the city pages. In connection with Weingarten and Dietenbach Park, a clear location advantage emerges: The site is close to residential quarters but also in an environment that offers enough space for meadows, animals, hut building, and movement. This makes it particularly attractive for excursions with children. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

History, Sustainability, and Special Attitude of the Place

The Adventure Playground Freiburg has a clear educational tradition. According to the city description, the site has been working since its opening in 1975 with the aim of integrating sustainability into educational practice. This is important because it transforms the place from a purely recreational area into a conceptual site for education for sustainable development. Environmental protection, ecological responsibility, resource conservation, and the strengthening of self-, social, factual, and learning competencies are among the core goals of the work. For families and professionals, this is more than just a nice guiding principle: it explains why fire, water, earth, plants, and animals are not just elements of the backdrop but starting points for experiences, projects, and learning processes. This creates a place where children do not just consume but create, experiment, and take responsibility. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/1086030.html))

This attitude also shapes the character of the place in everyday life. Children build huts, work with tools, care for animals, bake, garden, and at the same time experience rules, boundaries, and cooperation. This not only strengthens self-confidence but also teamwork and practical orientation. Because the site is open and free of charge, it does not become an exclusive offer but a low-threshold access point for many children and teenagers. This explains why search queries around adventure playground Freiburg reviews, adventure playground Freiburg photos, and adventure playground Freiburg and surroundings often coincide with substantive questions: people want to know not only where the place is located but also what atmosphere it conveys. The answer is clear: The Adventure Playground Freiburg is a nature-oriented, educationally shaped, and at the same time lively place where openness and responsibility belong together. Those planning an excursion, a holiday offer, or a school visit will find here an unusually versatile facility with real history and a clear profile. ([freiburg.de](https://www.freiburg.de/pb/%2CLru/2135611.html))

By far the coolest playground there is. If you don't want to be a kid there yourself, you must have missed something. Our big one gets super excited every time we go there, and the little one is just waiting until she finally turns 6.

What a great place! We stumbled upon the adventure playground on Bugginger Straße by chance – and we were thrilled. Our son was able to ride a pedal boat, brush goats, climb, and just be a kid. It’s wonderful that there’s such a lovingly designed and open place for kids in Freiburg. We will definitely come back!

Great stay for kids, with lots of what kids wish for. Wooden huts, animals, play opportunities, and good supervision.
