A unique vessel made from fresh wood

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the WaldHaus Freiburg invites you to the Green Wood Workshop with the course Shrink-Pot Course. From 10 AM to 4 PM, participants will learn a traditional yet surprisingly modern technique: sustainable containers made from fresh wood without the use of glue, nails, or screws.

Traditional craftsmanship with a sustainable idea

In the Shrink-Pot method, a dried base is inserted into fresh wood. As the wood dries and shrinks, it bonds firmly with the base. This results in characterful pieces with a natural surface and individual shape.

Creating with your own hands

In a relaxed workshop atmosphere, participants will create their own Shrink-Pots. Depending on the design, these can become pencil holders, toothbrush cups, dry vases, or other practical containers. Working with green wood not only imparts craft knowledge but also creates an immediate event experience with wood, tools, and visible results.

Experienced guidance at WaldHaus Freiburg

Instructor Matthis Berthold was trained at the Sätergläntan Institute for Traditional Craftsmanship in Sweden. Together with him, course participants will discover the specifics of green wood processing and receive expert insights into material selection, tool usage, and the organization of a successful workshop course.

Who is the course suitable for?

The workshop is aimed at adults and young people aged 16 and above, who enjoy sustainable craftsmanship, creative design, and natural materials. Materials and tools are included in the participation fee. Registration is required; the deadline for registration is October 22, 2026.

Conclusion: Experience craftsmanship and take home a unique piece

The Shrink-Pot Course combines traditional knowledge, sustainable event planning, and creative design for an intense workshop experience. Those who want to experience the scent of fresh wood, focused handwork, and the special atmosphere of an open green wood workshop will find the perfect setting at WaldHaus Freiburg for an inspiring course day.
