On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Holocaust survivor and witness Eva Weyl will report in Freiburg about the persecution of her family and her own experiences during the Nazi era. The compelling lecture connects personal memory with historical responsibility and makes the past immediately tangible.

A Freiburg Family History

Eva Weyl was born in 1935 in Arnhem, Netherlands. Her mother Margot Wolff was from Freiburg, and her grandfather Willy Wolff ran a bank in Freiburg. Under the Nazis, the family was persecuted as Jewish. In January 1942, she was interned in the Westerbork camp.

Remembering as a Personal Encounter

Time and again, Eva Weyl's family escaped deportation. In April 1945, she was liberated. Her grandfather survived two concentration camps and returned to Freiburg in 1947. In her lecture, Weyl gives a personal voice to these experiences and creates a concentrated, respectful event atmosphere.

Passing on History

For nearly 20 years, Eva Weyl has regularly spoken with young people. Her aim: Young people should become witnesses and continue to carry the memory of the Nazi crimes. The event is organized in cooperation with the association ZWEITZEUGEN e. V. and integrates the event experience into contemporary educational work.

The lecture is aimed at all those who wish to understand historical contexts firsthand and take responsibility for a democratic culture of remembrance.
