Testing by playing, judging critically: The TOMMI Games Award in Freiburg
In the Haslach district library, everything revolves around current games, apps, and electronic toys from October 27 to November 6, 2026. At the TOMMI Games Award, children and adolescents assume the role of testers and give their votes to digital offerings.
Gaming experience with real participation
Up to 40 new console and computer games as well as electronic toys are waiting for curious testers. The event combines fun with media competence: Young visitors try out the nominated products, compare their impressions, and evaluate what convinces them.
An established media education project
The TOMMI was initiated in 2002 by media expert and children's and youth book author Thomas Feibel. Since 2008, the testing phase takes place in public libraries. The Games Award is one of the important awards for digital games and educational offerings for children and young people in the German-speaking world. In 2026, the award will be presented for the 25th time.
Testing weeks in the Haslach district library
The first testing week runs from Tuesday, October 27, to Friday, October 30, 2026. Testing takes place from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 4 PM each day. In the second testing week from November 3 to 6, testing times are from 3 PM to 6 PM. Children and adolescents between the ages of eight and 16 can register as free testers. School classes also have the opportunity to book a workshop.
Audience mood between curiosity and discovery spirit
The event atmosphere thrives on direct testing: screens, controllers, and digital game worlds become the testing ground. This creates an event experience that sensibly connects entertainment and target group communication. For families, the TOMMI Games Award offers a tangible way to engage with questions about game quality, creativity, and media usage.
Conclusion: Experience games and show opinions
The TOMMI Games Award turns young people into active voices of game culture. Those who enjoy playing, discovering new things, and sharing their opinions will experience a diverse testing phase in Freiburg with real influence on the evaluation of the nominated titles.
