Reading for Diversity: Discovering Democracy Together
On Friday, October 2, 2026, the event Parents Against the Right – Reading for Democracy invites children aged six and their families to the Central Library Freiburg. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, stories that bring diversity, participation, solidarity, and the courage to stand up for others to life will be the focus.
Stories That Make Democracy Understandable
During the reading for children, democracy becomes tangible: the selected children's and youth books provide age-appropriate access to important topics of social coexistence. Listening, asking questions, and sharing one's own thoughts are as much a part of the event experience as the special atmosphere of a shared library afternoon.
An Afternoon for Children and Families
Parents Against the Right Freiburg combines literary education with the imparting of democratic values. In a calm environment, opportunities arise for discussions about diversity, fairness, and participation. The format is aimed at children aged six and is suitable as a shared family experience in downtown Freiburg.
Democracy Begins with Listening
The event is part of the Long Night of Democracy Baden-Württemberg. Its organization focuses on low-threshold encounters and a direct target group approach: children experience that their perspectives matter and that solidarity begins in everyday life. Important for event planning: Participation is free of charge and does not require registration.
Conclusion: Visitors can expect an inspiring reading afternoon with committed readers, diverse stories, and valuable impulses for family life. Those who want to experience democracy in a child-friendly way and engage in conversation will find a suitable place at the Central Library Freiburg on October 2.
