Alberta's Wish Shop: A Picture Book Concert Full of Sound and Imagination
When images turn into music and a story suddenly fills the entire room, a special family experience begins at the Literature House Freiburg: Martina Walther and the Ensemble Recherche invite children aged 4 and up to a sounding picture book concert. As part of the 33rd Freiburg Children's Literature Festival, the event combines literature, illustration, and live music into a warm, child-friendly learning experience.
A Wish Shop World for Curious Children
With a cheerful doorbell, the world of Alberta Brocante and her wish shop opens up. Families discover a fanciful picture book story on the large-format Kamishibai, where a rainy morning, a hat, a giraffe carafe, and the question of the rhythm of happiness become unusual sound ideas.
Images, Words, and Wind Instruments to Marvel At
Martina Walther presents her illustrations in large format, while musicians from the Ensemble Recherche accompany the scenes with a brass trio. The combination of imagery, narration, and music engages multiple senses and supports age-appropriate development of language sensitivity, imagination, and attentive listening.
Child-friendly, Inspiring, and Weather-independent
The picture book concert is aimed at the youngest audience of the Literature House and is suitable for ages 4 and up. The one-hour event offers families shared time, children's laughter, and joyful learning in a protected indoor space. The Literature House Freiburg is accessible according to DIN 18040, making it suitable for people with mobility difficulties or wheelchairs.
Free Entry and Registration Required
The event takes place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Admission is free, but registration via the Lirum Larum Reading Festival is required. The concert is organized by the Literature House Freiburg, supported by the Ensemble Recherche, and funded by the Swiss Cultural Foundation Pro Helvetia and the Baden-Württemberg Foundation as part of the Literature Summer 2026.
Conclusion: A Family Experience with Music at Heart
Alberta's Wish Shop offers children a imaginative approach to literature and music. Families experience a sensory hour full of astonishment, linguistic wit, and a sense of community. Those who want to excite children about stories, images, and instruments will experience an extraordinary picture book concert live at the Literature House Freiburg.
