Alberta's Wish Shop Opens at the Freiburg Children's Literature Festival

On October 14, 2026, Martina Walther invites families to the Literaturhaus Freiburg. During the reading from Alberta's Wish Shop, children aged seven and up will dive into a colorful picture book world full of unusual wishes, imaginative ideas, and loving collages.

A Story Full of Wonder and Imagination

Alberta knows a surprising solution for almost every problem. In her cluttered shop, she discovers clouds to wear, rolling parking spaces, a take-away sea, and an egg cup shaped like a camel. The playful story encourages children to come up with their own wishes, discover connections, and unleash their imagination.

Age-appropriate Learning Experience with Pictures and Words

Martina Walther combines illustration, storytelling, and observation to create a special family experience. The event addresses children's development in an age-appropriate manner: children experience how pictures tell stories, how language creates ideas, and how new ideas emerge from everyday things. Children's laughter, curiosity, and shared learning fun are at the center of this event.

The Artist Martina Walther

Martina Walther studied Illustration Fiction at the Lucerne School of Art and Design and works as an illustrator and picture book maker in Lucerne. In her studio, she draws, paints, collages, sculpts, and glues storyboard booklets. Alberta's Wish Shop was nominated for the Serafina in 2023. This combination of artistic experience and imaginative picture book design makes the reading an inspiring literary experience for children and families.

A Safe Space for Shared Discovery

The Literaturhaus Freiburg provides the perfect setting for a weather-independent cultural event. The reading is part of the 33rd Freiburg Children's Literature Festival, which has been organized by the Freiburg Cultural Office in cooperation with the Freiburg Theater since 1994. Admission to the festival events is free.
