A street becomes a colorful play area for families
On Friday, October 16, 2026, the northern section of Sautierstraße in Freiburg will transform into a car-free play street for an afternoon. Children, parents, and neighbors will spend time together with movement, play, and ideas for a climate-friendly coexistence.
Free space for children's laughter and movement
Between Rennweg and Stefan-Meier-Straße, the street belongs to the people. Children can ride scooters, skateboards, or bicycles, play ball, and discover public space from a new perspective. The playmobile and the Freiburg Children’s Office will bring age-appropriate play offers that combine movement, curiosity, and communal play.
Bicycle course for young traffic talents
On the bicycle skills course, children can test their skills and collect playful learning experiences related to balance, coordination, and safe mobility. The ADFC will also offer bicycle coding to help protect bicycles from theft. For coding, please bring your ID, proof of purchase for the bicycle, and if applicable, a trailer or battery.
Experiencing climate protection in a child-friendly way
An information booth from the Climate Neighborhood Zähringen and Freiburg Nord will inform about local offerings and opportunities to participate. Families will discover how climate-friendly mobility, less car traffic, and more space for play can improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The event combines learning fun, movement, and participation in a child-friendly way.
Shaping the neighborhood together
Committed families from the neighborhood, the Freiburg Children’s Office, and the playmobile invite all citizens, with and without children. The open format creates encounters, strengthens community spirit, and makes it tangible what a vibrant and safe street can look like. The temporary closure to car traffic provides additional space for play and exchange.
Conclusion: An afternoon for families with space to play
The Climate Neighborhood Play Street combines children's laughter, movement, and climate protection into a special family experience. Those who want to experience Freiburg's streets as a space for play and encounter will find shared time, practical participation offers, and new ideas for their own neighborhood here.
