Heimattage Baden-Württemberg 2026: Oberkirch celebrates history, culture, and enjoyment

Under the motto Home is where good things are created, Oberkirch in the Renchtal will become a stage for a versatile cultural and community year in 2026. The Heimattage Baden-Württemberg connect lived tradition, literature, music, customs, regional specialties, and modern event formats into a varied multi-day experience for locals and visitors.

A whole year full of festival atmosphere

Since 1978, the Heimattage have presented a different region of Baden-Württemberg each year. In 2026, Oberkirch will host the event series, focusing on its history, cultural identity, and the enjoyment landscape of the Renchtal. Numerous associations, institutions, artists, and regional partners will shape the program.

Three anniversaries will give the festival year special significance: Oberkirch celebrates 700 years of city rights, the 350th anniversary of the death of Baroque poet Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen, and 300 years of distilling rights. These themes will influence exhibitions, literary events, city tours, culinary offerings, and stage programs.

Baden-Württemberg Day with music, markets, and enjoyment

On May 16 and 17, 2026, Baden-Württemberg Day will transform the city center into a lively festival ground. A two-day trade fair will showcase companies, craft businesses, and service providers from Oberkirch and the region. Additionally, there will be a stage program with SWR1 Pop & Poetry in Concert, the SWR1 Pfännle, an atmosphere of arts and crafts market, culinary offerings, and the Oberkircher Brennermeile.

Already on May 14 and 15, the Oberkirch Days will lead into the event weekend with cycling and hiking tours through the districts and a concert evening by piano.vocal. Regional products, Baden hospitality, and musical program points create a sense of community that goes far beyond a single concert.

Medieval spectacle at Schauenburg

On July 11 and 12, 2026, the ruins of Schauenburg high above Oberkirch will provide a historic backdrop for a medieval spectacle. Jugglers, knights, market stalls, demonstrations, and culinary experiences will bring history to life in an authentic atmosphere. Between vineyards, wall remnants, and the Black Forest panorama, a special festival experience will be created for families, history enthusiasts, and culture fans.

State Festival Days with customs and a grand parade

The highlight of the Heimattage year will be the State Festival Days from September 11 to 13, 2026. The event will kick off with the award of the Heimatmedaille Baden-Württemberg. On Saturday, a children’s and customs day will be held in the city center, with costume dances and festive atmosphere in the tent, as well as a grand tattoo in the stadium.

On Sunday, the large state festival parade will move through Oberkirch. Costume groups, music bands, historic citizen militias, clubs, and delegations from the Oberkirch districts will make the State Festival Days an impressive showcase of Baden-Württemberg's festival culture. Free bus shuttles and additional trains on the Renchtalbahn will support travel to the central festival days.

Tradition meets modern culture

The program connects historical city history with contemporary culture. Exhibitions like Gut beTRACHTet, literary offerings, historical city tours, wine tastings, culinary cycling, concerts, open-air theater, and club events will expand the line-up of the festival year. This creates not a monotonous large event, but a diverse cultural program with main stages, local venues, and many personal encounters.
