Art Meets Nature: An Exhibition Between Studio and Forest
The WaldHaus Freiburg presents the exhibition Art Meets Nature from October 18, 2026, to March 21, 2027. In the fifth joint exhibition with the Educational Ideas Workshop BAGAGE, more than 20 artists engage with nature in individual ways. The exhibition connects aesthetic experience, cultural education, and the question of how nature can be made visible in images, forms, and materials.
Diversity of Materials and Forms of Expression
The exhibition unfolds a wide range of artistic techniques. Oil and acrylic paintings meet drawings, graphic prints, and mixed-media works. Wire sculptures and wooden sculptures expand the viewing of works with plastic and sculptural dimensions. Between vibrant painting, graphic precision, and the immediate materiality of wood, a varied exhibition atmosphere is created.
Nature as Motif, Material, and Thought Space
The participating artists show their personal relationship with nature. It appears not only as landscape or motif but also as a cultural space of experience, educational impulse, and form-giving force. The works invite reflection on growth, transience, materiality, and human responsibility.
Artistic Positions from the BAGAGE Family
The exhibition project includes staff and speakers from the Freiburg BAGAGE family with the Educational Ideas Workshop, Bagage-Art, and Bagage Plan. Graduates of the continuing education in studio and workshop pedagogy also present their own works. The exhibition is complemented by works from the Freiburg artists Eberhard Brügel and Thomas Stadelmann.
Curating and Cultural Education
For planning and curating, Birgit Lüdtke-Brucker, artistic director of the Educational Ideas Workshop BAGAGE, and Margret Hansen, deputy director and exhibition curator of the WaldHaus Foundation, are responsible. The connection of art, nature pedagogy, and personal work practice makes the exhibition a special place for cultural education.
Visiting and Exhibition Atmosphere
The WaldHaus Freiburg offers weather-independent exhibition visits in the midst of the Freiburg city forest. The exhibition rooms are barrier-free accessible according to DIN 18040. From Tuesday to Friday, the exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sundays and public holidays, WaldHaus opens with a café from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. In November and December, shortened hours apply.
Conclusion: Art Meets Nature brings together painting, drawing, printmaking, installation, and sculpture for a sensual exploration of the relationship between humans and the environment. Those who wish to not only observe nature but rediscover it in its artistic translation will experience an inspiring art experience with lasting effect at WaldHaus Freiburg.
